Welcome to the Summer session of COMP_SCI 111! Before you get started, it might be a good idea to first read the Course’s Syllabus. Do that and come back here!
Now that you’ve read the syllabus, some instructions are in order! Since this is an asynchronous class, there’s some flexibility in the exact timing of different portions of the course. Each section of the course will be released at once with each portion (lectures, mini-quizzes, tutorials, and exercises) having suggested deadline (the Due At deadline on Canvas) and an actual deadline (the Until deadline on Canvas). For instance, the mini-quiz associated with this lecture has a DUE AT deadline of Monday at 11:59pm CST (Evanston time) and an Until deadline of Sunday at 11:59pm. That means while you have until Sunday at 11:59pm to submit the assignment for full credit, we suggest you complete it after watching the videos on Monday. The next section of the course will be posted after the due date for the previous section (roughly weekly).

“Today’s” content is mostly about getting our bearings in the class. When it comes to lecture videos, people will work at different speeds during different parts of the class. You might be able to skip watching the videos entirely (instead just going through slides), watch a selection of them, or watch them at 2x speed. You’re welcome to do what’s right for you, but when you get stuck on assignments please refer back to the lectures.
